Become confident in your tango dancing & dance fluidly

in 60 days

even if you don’t have a partner, tend to lose the connection or stay stuck your head when you are dancing

If you’re a tango dancer - leader or follower - with high expectations for your dancing and looking to dance more in milongas while being in the flow of the music then you probably already know that working on your tango technique should a key part of your training.

And we’re willing to bet that, if available around you, you are already attending classes and workshops when you can, knowing that ease and confidence in tango only come from muscles memory and practice.

HERE'S WHAT YOU

MIGHT NOT KNOW

About what happens when you improve the quality of your dancing

  • Finding the flow of the dance organically

  • When you improve your tango technique, you start dancing with your whole body instead of ‘repeating sequences’. Your dancing becomes organic. The movements flow from your embrace and feel like an improvisation instead of feeling ‘rehearsed’.

  • Stop thinking and focus on the generosity of dancing instead

  • Maybe you have high standards when it comes to your dancing. This might mean you are spending too much time thinking when you are dancing. The work you do to improve your technique allows you to be fully present in the dance. And reconnect with the sense of enjoyment that brought you to tango in the first place.

  • Express the emotions of the music

  • As you know, when you’re thinking about the next sequence, or whether we’re ‘getting it right’, you can’t fully express the music. Improved quality and confidence in your dancing skills helps you go beyond the technique and connect with the orchestra. So that you can decide how you want to express the music.

  • Make your partners smile and feel loved

  • If you’re wondering why some people are smiling dreamily when dancing and others less so… it has a lot to do with their partner’s skills! So if you are someone who, like us, cares about making their partners feel loved, know that focusing on the quality of your dancing is the surest way to do just that.

  • Be seen as someone people want to dance with

  • Even though there is probably a group of dancers around you who loves dancing with you, improving the quality of your dancing opens up a world of possibilities in milongas. Partners you haven’t danced with before will seek out your embrace

Even though the reasons for improving the quality of your dancing are obvious, the path to actually doing it is anything but

BECOMING A GREAT TANGO DANCER?

AWESOME!

But how do I actually get there?

Perhaps, when you looked at people dancing tango before you joined your first class you thought: “This looks easy”

You’ve joined classes, met other dancers, discovered what ‘milongas’ were...

If you’ve been at this for a few years, you’ve probably met wonderful people in your local tango scene.

But even with the most enthusiastic start, most tango dancers hit a plateau.

Maybe you can’t seem to improvise without thinking, or spend the whole dance worried you’re 'letting your partner down'.

Perhaps you also don’t dance as much as you’d like to. Maybe there are dancers you’d love to dance with… but they don’t seem to have noticed you.

Here’s why it is so challenging to feel confident when dancing tango:

First, because Tango is often perceived as “steps”, while it is actually a “technique”.

Therefore, most students get lost in the steps and miss the opportunity to understand how the different elements of tango technique work together.

They fall victim to the unexpectedly challenging aspects of tango technique (the professionals always make it look so easy

A second sticking point is lack of clarity about what they can do to improve on their own. Having to find a partner or wait for the next practica slows down their ability to practice, and thus improve.

Here’s why this is irreversibly crippling.

The dancer within us needs care, commitment and a good knowledge of technique to blossom.

With the seemingly unachievable task that is becoming good at tango, too many waste years feeling insecure as a dancer.

And the moment you feel that you can’t master the dance, it’s almost impossible to reconnect with the joy of tango dancing.

Therefore, gaining clarity on what you can do easily to improve your technique and the quality of your dancing is one of the few things you need to get right.

The 4 Reasons Why You Don't Feel Confident in Your Dancing Yet

(And how to change that)

Reason 1

You have learned steps instead of tools

Look, we are not saying your teacher is doing a bad job (at all). But we know that most tango teachers spend more time teaching steps than technique. At your level, though, you don’t need to learn more steps.

What you need are the tools that will make the movements come from an organic part in your body: the technique, the connection, the musicality.

Once these tools are part of your body’s vocabulary, you are easily able to improvise without thinking – without needing us (or anyone) to teach you more sequences.

Reason 2

You don't know yet how the elements of technique fit together

Tango technique isn’t particularly hard or complicated, but it does require you to understand how the different elements fit together.

Because of time between the lessons, or the desire to learn from many teachers, dancers often learn a step here and a technique tip there. Thus they can’t understand how to bring it all together and make their dancing come from an organic place in their body.

When you understand how the embrace impacts the free leg, and how it in turns plays out in your favourite movements like boleos, sacadas or a simple parada, you are not relying on the steps anymore.

You can decide, as a dancer, which tool you will use and when.

Reason 3

You don't know how to work at home to improve

Tango students are often stopped in their tracks because they can’t practice in-between lessons. If you don’t have a partner, you are stuck waiting for the next class or practica to improve, and that slows down your success.

When you know exactly what to do to practice at home individually, and how it will impact your dancing, you can then easily take responsibility for your own training.

And speed up your tango journey.

Reason 4

Thinking it will be too hard

There is an unfortunate myth in the dance word, which is this:

"If you didn’t start dancing at 5, you are doomed to be a second (or third) rate dancer all your life".

If there’s one dance where this is not true it’s tango dancing. And we have countless examples of this us included!

We are not saying you can become a good dancer with your hands in your pocket.

Noone ever did.

But if, like so many, you think that it’s too late for you to become a good dancer, please… we beg you to reconsider!

When you practice correctly, your body builds muscle memory and becoming a good dancer becomes inevitable.

Shh...We're going to tell you a little tango secret

Too many dancers start up tango with their hopes high... only to get frustrated when they reach the oh-so-common plateau of tango dancing.

They feel that they are not dancing as much, as elegantly, or as fluidly as they would like to.

The temptation then is to give up tango all together.

What they don’t understand is that confidence comes easily once they have improved the quality of their dancing.

Focusing on technique and connection and understanding how those elements fit together…  will be what makes you improvise without thinking.

Contrarily to popular belief, this is easier than most people think.

It starts with understanding the technique, deconstructing the steps and practicing it with individual exercises... so you can improvise and have fun when you are dancing with a partner.

And, with our permission, we'd LOVE to show you how to get there.

Success Stories

Rachel Ursina Ender

Before, I remember moments where things clicked into place, in turns with feeling lost and unable to grasp the tango technique.

Now, there is so much I can explore on my own – and it all pays off, whenever I have a chance to dance with a partner.

I am able to truly listen to my partner (instead of being highly dependant on him) and play, because I gained precision and confidence in the essentials.

David Bulger

I was confused about several of the important fundamentals and foundation techniques for Tango.

I wasn’t sure how effective an online course would be for that dance.

I have been very impressed with the quality of instruction from Pablo and Anne.

Many times they covered topics that I had been wondering about for a long time, but had previously not been explained fully to me.

Now I am much more confident in my dancing.

Sven Olle Larsson

I have been dancing Tango Argentino/Salon for 13 years, sometimes several times a week.

I decided to restart/refresh my dancing.

My dance happiness has come back, and I feel back home again in World of Tango.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions other dancers have asked before joining us in the Tango Confidence Online Course

Absolutely! In fact, we’ve designed this course with you in mind.

We know many dancers don’t have partners and aren’t sure how to practice on their own.

What’s more, one little-known tango secret is that the leading and the following technique are just the same thing…. Just used differently!

In the Tango Confidence Online Course, we break down the tango technique into easily understandable bites, and give you individual exercises to practice at home.

That way, you can practice on your own, without having to wait until the next time you can go to class.

Such a great question.

We agree with you, that feeling how your movement are received by your partner is key in tango.

However, this doesn’t mean that muscle memory and individual practice don’t play a role, far from it.

Our philosophy is this:

Ask yourself:

“How can I dance a movement beautifully with a partner, if I can’t dance it on my own?”

As such, and though we’d never suggest to stop practicing with other dancers, we believe that individual and partner practice go hand in hand.

By clearly breaking down the complexity of tango for you, and showing you how the different elements of technique go together, we give you the tools to practice correctly and “feel” the movement on your own – so you are able to dance it beautifully when you are with a partner

Ok, great question.

Let’s start by clarifying that even though we will be working together across the course of 8 weeks, you will still have access to all the training afterwards.

So if you can’t follow through with us, don’t worry. You can catch-up when you have the time, or go back to the videos to practice them.

Now, when it comes to the course itself:

  • The content of each module lasts between 30 and 60 minutes, and is broken down into small videos (10 minutes max), so you can watch at your own pace and practice in between videos
  • With each module we teach you one to three bonus exercises so you can practice the teaching (on you own). Star students tend to do practice the exercises every day, while others prefer to do a session here or there depending on their needs.

(We recommend regularity but let you decide)

Ooooh, you.

You’re one of us, someone who is always eager to improve!

Look, this is **not** a course for beginners (though someone just starting out would benefit greatly from it too – as you’ll understand from the below).

With the Tango Confidence Online Course, we are looking at improving the quality of your dancing.

That is usually what people at intermediate or advanced level are looking for.

If you are someone who dances in milongas and has fun but wants to truly stand out for your technique, elegance, precision and connection (rather than just steps), you’ll benefit greatly from the course.

We are going deep into tango technique so you can make the movements come from an organic place within your body and feel free to express yourself when you are out dancing the night away.
